Motorboat racing was in the 1908 Olympics. The main problem with any motor sport in the Olympics is cost. Commercial sponsorship or designated suppliers are not allowed in the Olympics, so that would leave it as a rich man's game.

The cost issue is the main reason Olympic yachting dropped the elegant 6 Metre in favour of much cheaper one-design classes.

Well, not ALL sports are in the olympics. Football, horse racing, or golf aren't there, either. The olympic sports are based on traditions created by the ancient Greeks. They must involve certain attributes of fitness, as well as custom and tradition. NASCAR just doesn't fit the bill for the olympics. That doesn't mean it isn't a sport. Being a car for over 100 degrees is a lot to deal with, in my opinion!!! Not just anyone could do it. Just like not everybody can handle incredible speeds of over 200 mph. That's why NASCAR drivers aren't just anybody...and that's also why they are considered atheletes. Not ALL types of athletes end up in the olympics...and NASCAR is just one of those sports.

I'll paraphrase as I can't quote the rule verbatim, but Olympic events cannot be contested by anything that uses an engine. The three events in the Winter Olympics that use a vehicle, bobsleigh, luge and skeleton, are all man/woman-powered. The various yachting events in the Summer Olympics use sails and the rowing and paddling events use men and women power.
