24-16x=-12x

Use distributive property.
2 times 12=24 then 2 times 8x=16x = x-11x
so now you have 24-16x=x-11x
now you want to get the variables on one side of the equation and get the whole numbers on the other. by this you would add the opposite of -16x to both sides. 24-16x+16x=x-11x+16x. now you have 24=x+5x. Add the two variables, now you have 24=6x, now divide both sides by 6 because division does the opposite of multiplication, which you want to get rid of (because 6 is attached to the variable). now you have 24/6 which is of course 4!

Multiply out the 2
24 - 16x = x - 11x
Add 16x to both sides
24 = x - 11x + 16x
Combine like terms
24 = 6x
Divide both sides by 6
4 = x

Multiply the first part out and simplify the 2nd part to get 28-16x=-10x.
From there just add 16 x to get 28=6x, then divide for 28/6

Just wanted to confirm that it's 4.
2(12-32) = -40
4-44 = -40
So, yeah, it's 4.
