I'm in Texas, but closer in to Houston and have a problem with sticker burrs and small children. Round-Up will kill everything, including the grass. If you don't like using herbicides and chemicals, the best alternative is vinegar! White, distilled vinegar diluted with water if very effective and you don't have to worry about pets or kids and poisons. Use a hose-end sprayer and dilute minimally. You will have to treat the area two or three times as the seeds that have already fallen will set and grow in the next season. Good Luck!

Im in the Dallas area and we have a problem with those too. Most people around here burn there fields to get rid of them but since theres been a burn ban for the past year, the stickers have gotten horrible. The best product I have come across is called Image. I recommend it to everyone and have never had a complaint. Just be careful because if you have St Augustine grass, make sure you get the stuff in the purple bottle because the orange bottle will kill your St Aug too. If you have burmuda, the orange bottle is good enough.

Dig them out if they have stickers already, they pop out easily with one whack of the hoe. Toss the whole plant in the trash, the seeds can dry and reproduce.
Use a good application of crabgrass preventer in late winter to keep the seeds that fell off from germinating; fertilize your grass well and don't mow it short--taller grass helps keep out the weeds and other grasses that try and sprout

Fertilize and mow with grass catcher.Grass burrs grow faster than grass so try to mow before they go to seed. The grass will choke them out eventually.
