Who wins and why - Tornado vs. Hurricane?

Category 3 hurricane vs category 5 tornado. GO!

If you mean an F5 tornado, their winds could reach over 300 miles per hour, but the Category 3 hurricane can only reach winds of 125 miles per hour. However, they can last for about days, causing billions of dollars of damage, and they also can create tornadoes. Tornadoes, on the other hand, only last for several minutes, and cause only millions of dollars in damage.

It depends on where you are relative to each...

A tornado is more intense but of shorter duration. If you get a direct hit, you are history as it will take the pavement off a highway, and strip a house clean all the way to it's slab.

A Hurricane will blow for a long time (depending on how fast it's moving). You may be flooded or blown away. It depends on how close you live to the coast, landfall timing relative to high tide, etc.

With the hurricane, you have 2-3 days notice that it's coming and you can run away (hundreds of miles inland).

With a tornado, there may be NO warning. But if your area is damaged, you only have to go a couple of miles away to find no damage.

Hurricane wins over tornado. Hurricanes are generally much larger and more destructive because of the volume of wind and water they generate, plus they travel much longer distances.

Tornado, it strikes with little if any warning and is the more powerful.
But, hurricanes are more widespread but can also spawn tornadoes themselves so I have to say Hurricane.

they'd probably connect mutually. both way the typhoon would win. typhoon's set off tornadoes of their own after all. Hugo had over three hundred "tornadoes" or vortices even as it hit South Carolina back in 89.
