No - heating pads are something that a pregnant woman should be using. Same effect as a hot tub - can cause miscarriage or preterm labor.
For pain, use an ice pack on the swollen area - or get someone to give you a back massage.

I love how everyone just guesses their answers! Heating pads do NOT cause miscarriages.
I was having lower back pains a few weeks ago and called my doctor, she actually recommended me using a heating pad. Just keep it on a low heat setting and don't have it on for too long.
If you want to be sure, call your doctor.

According to my ob/gyn, heating pads are fine on the back, as are hot baths. The big problem with hot tubs is that people stay in them too long. You don't want your body temp raised too high, because it effects your blood flow among other things. I used one when I was pregnant for back aches, as per my doc's suggestion.

No dont my doc insisted that i not use a heating pad ,, because the babys body heat does not change like ours and to much heat could cause the baby to go into shock or even cause preterm labor,, your best bet is to contact your doc,,,,

i wouldn't. Contact the doc just to be sure. Becareful using those pads. I know someone that used them and it put blisters on her back. It was so painful, she said that she was better off dealing with the pain.

I don't think it would be a problem on an arm or leg or something but definately not on your stomach. Ask your Dr to find out for sure.

I don't see why not? what hurts your back? seriously, you aren't going to cook the baby unless you yourself get 2nd degree to 3rd degree burns first.
