You can use a desktop e-mail client to download your mail from the Internet. Unlike web based e-mail, the desktop e-mail client is a software program which is installed on your computer. You can synchronize your e-mail between your Yahoo! account and your computer. The most popular desktop e-mail client is Microsoft's Outlook or Outlook Express. Outlook is part of Microsoft Office while Outlook Express comes with Internet Explorer (All Windows operating systems have Outlook Express installed by default) . Either programs can download your Yahoo! e-mail. However, I recommend using Mozilla's Thunderbird. Thunderbird is an open source (free) e-mail client. The download link is: http://www.mozilla.com/thunderbird/.

Whichever e-mail client you choose, you need to download and install a freeware called "YPOP." The download link is: http://www.ypopsemail.com/

The free version of Yahoo! e-mail does not include POP3 access. In layman terms, the free version can not communicate with an e-mail client. Fortunately, YPOP solves this problem and it is the right price. After you have installed the program, follow the instructions on how to set YPOP's to download your email. The webpages has instructions for several e-mail client. Choose the one you plan to use.

You may or may not need to upgrade your yahoo account to one that allows downloads. Yahoo has had different policies on this at different times. I have an upgraded (20 dollars per year) account that lets me download emails to mail programs such as Thunderbird (nice and free) or Outlook. Thunderbird is pretty nice! Yahoo has instructions to set up the email. Settings for downloads I think are pop.yahoo.com or pop3.yahoo.com or pop.mail.yahoo.com or something like this

FILE, save the actual email from the webpage.

That should work.
