Part of it is sexual dimorphism. The genders, as a trend, are attracted to traits that distinguish the genders (i.e. are exaggerations of sexual identifiers.)
. It explains why many men are attracted to large breasts, slim waists. Traits that could not be confused as masculine.
Many women, on the other hand, are attracted to large muscles, a v-shaped body shape, and strong facial features. Features a women would be unlikely to possess.
Hair is an extension of this. Hairiness is generally a masculine trait, so the extreme feminine of this would be to have little body hair.

Another explanation could stem from studies showing what seems obvious, women generally go for older men because of its evolutionary selective advantages, older men would want younger women evolutionarily. Lack of body hair suggests extreme youth.

It s a combination of factors/reasons resulting from OPPRESSION. Women s bodies in their natural state are deemed faulty and the freedom to rule one s own body is once again denied to women.

Of course TECHNICALLY a woman may choose how she grooms, but there are undesirable/often harmful consequences if she chooses anything but the norm.
This is enforced by teasing/shaming/mocking any "rebellious" choice, i.e. to sport unshaven legs. The topic is mostly- especially where private parts are concerned- taboo, thus restricting any open, honest, frank, widespread conversation and causing just about EVERY woman to feel embarrassed/ shamed/ confused/ trapped at at least some point in her life.
While women already make less $ than men at work and log more hours working in/on the home, it s expected that they spend even MORE of their own time and money grooming/ fixing their bodies to standards set by the culture & those in charge. The only CLEAR communication on this issue is the expected standards.

Less body hair is reminiscent of prepubescent boys and underage girls... It s counterintuitive for men to desire a hairless woman as it correlates to not yes being ready to procreate.

Hair removal is difficult; every hair-removal method is some combination of expensive/time consuming/difficult/ toxic/ uncomfortable/ harmful, etc. WHY ELSE would we do it, en masse, if not for some/all of the reasons I ve mentioned?

I always thought men don't like hair on women perhaps cause it reminds them of themselves, making them feel uncomfortable. Women are considered sexy by men, and being hairless pretty much anywhere besides your head is a winner in a sense.

I have never liked hairy men much. I don't mind hairy legs/arms at all but I am simply not a big fan of extremely hairy chests, and hairy backs are a huge turn off for me. This is speaking just in aesthetic terms, if I love someone I don't care whether they are hairy or not.

Hi Jet Alone. What an intriguing question. I know that women have either shaved (or plucked) their hair in different cultures to different degrees throughout history. But you are right, today it is increasingly fashionable in the West for us to shave (or wax). I keep myself totally shaved and I know that men prefer that. But why? I think it might be because it makes us seem either more sleek (like a penis is sleek) and, therefore, more sexual, or, it may be because of the way it makes us seem more vulnerable, and therefore, more open to being penetrated. What ever the reason, it sure means a lot of work for us girls. And believe me, a full wax job is no picnic! Tee hee. But it sure makes me look great.

For the same reason big eyes are considered attractive: large eyes and lack of hair are markers of youth. Men would prefer younger looking women because they seemingly have more reproductive years left.

Evolutionary speaking, mother nature never expected the invention of shavers and depilatory creams.

Some men love hairy women... It is a matter of preference and you'll find that men who don't watch as much television and are not as media blinded, (I.E. More intelligent and able to think on their own) tend to be a little more appreciative of a woman in a natural state.

Unfortunately for them... most women hate body hair!
