Yes, turtles can recognize who is their owner. If you plan on going away you might want to have your mom get to know your turtle a little better. I went away for six days, and my brother was supposed to take care of my turtle, and he wouldnt eat, and the day I came back he died.
I know lots of people who have turtles, so I asked them what it was all about, and they said it probably came from the stress of having a stranger around all the time, and me not being there.

Your turtle question was very interesting glad you asked it. About turtle not taking food from your mother. Might you feed it little extra when going away. It might not be hungry. Sure it will eat when your mother feeds it, when it get hungry, but it might like getting it from you more.

This may be a Tortoise, and not a Turtle. Tortoise are notorious for falling in love. Yes, your Tortoise knows you and Trusts you. I think he in love and is sad when you not there and worries for you. He will be OK when you return. This "IS" a serious answer!
Papeversomniferum seems to be Freaking out. Just be careful and not give out your real name, address, phone number etc. Also, be aware of what you say in normal conversation with people. An experienced "Weirdo" knows how to word questions to get information. I have to tell my Mother all the time about phone solicitors trying to finagle information from her, they are "Slick".

Yes turtles can recognize you and your smell.. They normally will only bond with one or two people when they are pets.

Yes they can recognize you. Every animal has a way of recognizing certain things, including humans. Whether it be by touch, smell, or hearing, they can recognize more than you think.

They can associate you with food, but that in itself does not usually interfere with the eating... unless you also trained them that food is always presented at a certain time in a certain place or something.
(Oh, and we can offer better general advice if we know a species- 'ground turtle' is not helpful.

Sure it does. Reptiles are smarter than people give them credit for. they can even distinguish thier name. All animals recognize the hand that feeds them, and can possibly, mistrust a new hand feeding them.

When a Trurtle is hungry it doesn't matter who feeds it. If you were hungry and your not at home, but at a friends house and their mother makes ya'll a sandwich..would you eat it?
