If time travel was possible then people would have already been doing it throughout history.

I cannot see how is is plausible, if one went back to change history, then you actually just negated your reason for changing history, because, in the future you no longer need to go back to change history, so you will not go back, but then you would need to go back in time, etc....get it?

By scientific theory, anything going faster than the speed of light does go back in time; and I suppose light (or anything else) being sucked into a black hole is therefore going back in time. Of course, if you did this yourself, you would be compressed into a singularity, and probably destroyed before that, so what was left of you wouldn't be too effective when you got there to do anything.

The classic answer is that if time travel were possible, we'd have seen time travelers by now. On the other hand, maybe folks smart enough to build time machines are smart enough to avoid times like ours. The logic of time travel is explored in many scifi stories, notably Robert Heinlein's All You Zombies.

according to string theory, the answer is no

Don't ask me to explain further, because I can't seeing as I don't even understand string theory, I just saw a special about it on NOVA. You should see if you can find it at your local library it's pretty sweet, not really sure what it's actual title was though. But it discussed time travel theory in pretty good detail
