okay. broadband telephone is when u have your telephone connected using the cable wire instead of your telephone wire.
in order to have broadband telephone you need to have a broadband internet in other words, it is high speed internet that uses your cable line. You can get high speed internet with earthlink, road runner or comcast or optimum online.
When u get the high speed internet, u can get your broadband telephone from companies like vonage. I prefer vonage because they offer the cheapest prices compared to other broadband telephone companies.
But you will need different phones i think. cuz the phone line is not the same for broadband phones.
although, when your high speed internet cable goes out, your phones goes out.
you can get broadband phone, high speed internet, and tv cable for a cheap price if you get them together from your local cable provider.
But if you dont want cable tv, get a cheap internet provider such as earthlink and then get the broadband from vonage for an even cheaper price, and then get an illegal cable box so that u can watch free tv. so its even cheaper.
dsl is not broadband internet, only the ones using the cable wire is.

Broadband telephone is just another fancy name for VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol, i.e. The Internet) and any other name that you might come across relating to the Internet. For a more technical explanation you can go to the link provided 1st.
For an easy to understand explanation to best describe it for you to understand, you use your Broadband (Cable/DSL/Wireless modem) connection to plug in a special device to your router (unless the VoIP technology is built inside the router) so that then you can use that device to plug in a telephone to it. If your asking "what plug would I use to plug my telephone to the device?" That's an easy question to answer. You know how you take the telephone cord to plug in your phone to the phone cord outlet on your wall? You use that same telephone cord to plug it in to that special device. Voila!!! Your using your Internet connection to place phone calls.
Now when you place a phone call your conversation goes thru the Internet using a special server where it is then routed onto land lines so that you can reach whomever your calling.
I hope the 2nd link answers any further questions you may have.

Broadband telephone or VOIP is simply a telephone that works over your internet connection and you can only use it when you have internet connection or power. I use Vonage and its great except that when the power goes out I have no telephone. check out vonage.com for a primer on the VOIP phone services

Your voice is converted into data which is sent over your broadband connection to a phone office, where it is converted back into voice and rings the phone that you wanted so you can talk to someone else.
