Aside from the matter of taste, there are 2 things to remember.

First is that everyone (except color blind people) will aggree on what is the most red color there is. And that is the red that stimulates the red sensitive cells of the eye the most.
(No one will agree on the best yellow, or green or blue)

Second thing is that the eye is the most sensitive to green. At same power, a green light will appear brighter that any other color.

Green. People here are very uneducated and don't know a spec about Science of Color. "orange" is actually too "light" and "red" fades away. People might say "red" for reasons like favoring, or in cultural biases. It's WRONG.
Green in fact ATTRACTS the eye, because of it's color peak. Green, On it's Own, is the epitome of Color.

"Some colors or combinations of them irritate eyes and cause headaches. For example, bright yellows—either on walls or as the background on a computer screen—are the most bothersome colors and are not calming or relaxing in any way. Bright colors reflect more light, so yellow over-stimulates our eyes, causing strain and even irritability. "

The color of money, of course. Don't believe me? Put various colors of paper on a busy side walk, then put a $5 bill in the middle of it all, and wait to see which one gets picked up first!

I remember reading an article on this, and it said yellow. That is why some cities have yellow firetrucks now.

From my own experience, I would have to agree that bright yellow stands out more than any other color. Do a test: put something yellow in your visual field, and look past it. It stands out.

I don't think its the color itself but the contrast you get from the object and its background. Consider colourblind people, they look simply for the shades.

Total opposite colors on the color wheel are extreme colors and have the most contrast. LIke black and white blue and beige or orange green/purple

A color called "Strong Yellow-Green". It's being used in school zone signs and student crosswalk signs now. It really catches the eye.
