The movie was made in the 80's. It had to do with some scientists in some underground facility who were studying some sort of being or entity. Basically the creature would take on the form of whatever the worse fear/nightmare of the person was. It seems like it had shadow in its name maybe.

I've tried to search for it using your 'shadow' clue but nothing really suitable comes up from the eighties and not all movies have a plot summary or review anyway.
So, do you think it might have been a 'made for TV' movie or can you remember if anyone slightly famous was in it? That will help a lot.
