your ground is not good on the left, or it is shorting out. Sounds like your lamps or switch needs replacing too.

Unless you like interacting with cops when they pull you over, do not drive after dark with this vehicle until it is fixed.

Check with your dealer. There is a bulletin on some Sunfires with no lights. The splices in the harness go bad.

You need new bulbs or headlights. If you go to a parts store: Napa, Autozone, PepBoys, Sears, etc. They will be able to tell you if the entire light needs replacement or just the element which goes into the light. I would replace them both.

Did you just get your car back from a body shop? Sounds like a body ground was painted and isn't making a good connection.

Low beams burn out first. Try two new bulbs first.
