Go to AMDA and stay in NEW YORK until you get enough credible work to move to LA, then if you are extremely lucky you might claw out a marginal living, if you are lucky. The stats for those who make it are staggeringly against you. What about local theater? What have you done to put on your resume? Can you sing and dance as well as act? You need to be the best of the best in your hometown. Hane you ever heard of Megan Rozak? She has one of the best voices in the country, literally amazing, talentedm perky, that certain something...and is almost 22 and still a relative unknown, and she is the best of the best from Western New York, she is in summer stock right now, graduated from AMDA, so what's the deal? There are ten thousand of her out there, and so few roles. You have to give it everything absolutely everything you have, and be willing to suffer. Because suffer you will for a while. It is the relative few who get plucked out of their causal college workshop and directly to a movie role or TV role. So few that their stories stand out, but so very few.
And remember that there are people who will find a way to get to those casting calls that you can't find a way to. You don't get asked twice very often in the business, and if you make some excuse, don't expect to ever get called again.
I am telling you the truth, I mean I am in a position to know. If you aren't one of the little queens of your town right now, ask yourself if you are being realistic. If you need to act, you must take advantage of everything you can locally, you absolutely must.
If you have a couple minor roles, maybe one or two big ones, why should they waste their time looking at you when there are two hundred others with outstanding acting, dancing, AND singing credentials. You have to get yourself noticed. No one is looking for you, you have to get noticed. No one knows you, you have to get out there and get known.
So take it one step at a time: try out for your musical, and no matter what, give it your all. Go for it. Go for the extra classes, join the drama club, take a dance class, take voice lessons, jopin a glee club. Get out there and be marvelous! Break a leg, I hope you really be true to your dream, even if right now only you believe in you!
