Nourishment, Respiration, Reproduction, Excretion
Hearing, thinking, a need for shelter etc don't apply to plants and bacteria, even though they are living. All living things need nourishment, all require respiration/oxygen in some form, all living things reproduce, and all living things excrete something; be it oxygen, fecal matter etc.
I can only think of these four things
