I have a friend and when he goes into Network Settings it shows two things; "1394 Connection" and "Local Area Connection" He has DSL and Windows XP Home. Is this normal?

Local Area Connection when disabled; disconnected his Trading Station so we know it normal. If, the first answer correct then he OK. Thanks!

Yes. It depends how many different types of network cards/connections he has available.

If I remember correctly, 1394 is infared.

Although he may not be connected to any network or anything, Network Settings will still show what's available to use.

1394 is Firewire. This is usually found on MACS but can also be found on PC's. It is a high speed very reliable way to connect devices in a home entertainment network. it supports a maximum of 63 pieces of hardware. It is considered a network connection because each device hooked into the firewire ports acts as a peer-to-peer connection with every other firewire device that's connected. So if I had a digital video camera and some sort of display connected to a firewire hub, the camera and monitor could talk to each other directly without going through the PC and taking up any of it resources.

It is normal to show 1394 and Local Area connection win windows Xp. Nothing to worry about it.
