The real answer is that this error is too generic to allow us to help you. We know something went terribly wrong, but not much else. You'd need to give us a whole bunch of other information (which version of wmp, version of windows, what were you doing just prior, etc.) and we still may not know.

You might have found it unhelpful, but "get VLC" isn't a bad TYPE of answer. I would thinkthat VLC is a poor repalcement for WMP (although it's an excellent video player). Probably Winamp or Itunes will serve you better. Itunes will make it particularly easy...it will find your music or video collection automatically and the interface is intuitive.

You might be able to uninstall it and reinstall it to fix the error, but I can't give any better advice then that since I'm guessing that's all Windows told you. Do you know how to find Event Viewer in Administrative Tools? If not, you'll find it in the Control Panel. From there click on "Application" and see if you can find the error that is talking about Windows Media Player.

This is an unexpected error that there is no known fix for. It could be some corrupt files that the media player is playing, or your system could have gotten too bogged down and there was a random memory error. Sometimes Windows just crashes and you have to restart. That's Windows for you.

It depends on what you were using Media Player for. Many times when report the incident to Microsoft, and the error is known, the window will generate a link for you to go to in order to get more information on what's causing your error and how to correct it.

If this is the first time you've seen this error, ignore it and try to do what you were doing, again.... if you continue to see this error then it is probably a music or video file error and it will continue to do this and you will not be able to play the file. (sorry)

Well you first must include the type of file or aplication you're trying to open and then check if there are any cracks on the files encription code or main file. Try it again and if it doesn't work then try downloading it again if possible. If you need further assistance just email me at sci_res07@yahoo.com

Uninstall Media Player and then go to Microsoft.com and install a new version.

I would uninstall the current version, then goto http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/default.mspx and download the latest version, i recommend version 11.
