CA will supply many things...probably all that you desire. If you can survive the earthquakes, firestorms, mudslides and snooty people of Irvine, go ahead. Irvine has all of these and is about a forty minute drive in heavy traffic from anything interesting.

Evanston is not exciting all the time nor the center of "fun." It is however the home of Northwestern Univ. and two very large hospitals. It is home to many "professionals."

There is a "laid back" attitude there. It is a community with many ethnic backgrounds and income ranges.

It's your call, but I know there will be fewer outside distractions but as many opportunities in Evanston to further your education.

One last point....From Irvine, the beach is about 45 minutes away with a large filled parking lots to find a place for your car. You can walk to the beach in Evanston...no need to park.

If your young and single I woudl pick Irvine Ca. Had both of my daughter there and its a great place. I also have been to Evanston, Il and its nice. But no comparison te CA. The weather is warm, and there are better schools and a lot of opportunities. Just keep in mind Ca is A LOT more expensive.

I lived in Evanston for 15 years. It is a great city, with easy access to Chicago and the north shore for any kind of entertainment you could wish. It is an easy city to live in. I am going through there tomorrow for a show at Ravinia, where you can hear everything from classical music to Cheap Trick in a beautiful setting in the woods.

Warning though, we are expecting a cold winter, I just heard that.

Irvine is home to University of California Irvine, which is an excellent medical school and one of the bigger hospitals around. The climate is excellent, also. The down side is housing cost is high compared to most places.
