It was intended to be an economic and political alliance of many small states. They all joined together because they realized that they are much stronger together than apart. The people of the USA had rights beyond imagination to anyone at that time, however, that idea did not last long.
Even before the 1900's England surpassed the ingenuity of the USA. The industrial period and the inventions such as the train and automation first appeared in England and from there made their way to America. England and other European countries gave women the right to vote, the right to own property and all other rights that were till that time given exclusively to men, long before American women recieved the same rights.
Slowly, Americans lost more and more of their freedoms and rights to the point that "separation of church and state" are just meaningless words on paper.
America is a great idea, an idea that never became a reality. Just like Communism, the "American Dream" sounds nice on paper, but in practice it is impossible to achieve.

Its intended to be a nation bound by our Founding Fathers. Its a nation that is messed up in so many ways, so racist, so discriminating, but its also a nation who has stuck together for the most part. like 9/11. People dish out on Bush all the time. But who brought us all together & closer more than ever that day? Who is putting forces out so nothing like that happens again? that is what i think the United States is.

A huge chunk of land, roughly the size of australia, but a little larger populated by 200 million immigrants who formed a capitalist and materialistic society with a puritanical work ethic and an ironic disdain for outsiders in general. Motivated by the fear of losing the massive amount of wealth and posessions they have accumulated, and must now guard. This is evident in governemnt spending, wich primarily goes toward the military.

I believe it was intended to be a place of freedom. A place of independence from Great Britain. Somewhere that people could live their lives as they please. Where people could find hope; do good; create a strong society. Where the government cares about the best interest of the people.

I used to believe that it was a free country.... unfortunatly it IS a free country... free for whomever wants to come in and take it from those of us it originally belongs to.....like those who come in and FREELY take away jobs, live here , work here, ect. It used to be a place of dreams, but they don't happen to the Americans, just those who come in and FREELY take whatever they want.
