It was originated by african-americans in the south. They were constantly being treated wrongly and it made them feel blue. So they would sing songs about how they felt and why. Hence, the blues.

i think it started when there was slavery. they all came 2gether and told each other tales of woe, and some1 turned it in2 songs . mighty moveing songs, if i must say so. 2 bad they had 2 go thru that 2 get the music.
