The United States was formed on the idea of freedom of worship, speech etc for every white, christian male. The founding fathers are probably turning in their graves now that women, jews and (shudder) even blacks can vote and own property and arms. I hope they keep spinning. Slave owning nasties that they were.

The fact is, the US is still very much attatched to this white male christian idea. Try to find a president that wasn't.

The myth is that the intention was to form a country where everyone was free, ruled democratically. The US was the last western country to ban slavery (over 30 years after anywhere in europe), and the war of independance was never intended as such. It was said by many at the time that they didn't want to sever ties with England, but with George III. Had George III been deposed, who knows what will have happend? The method of governence was not decided either. Many signiatories of the declaration of independance wanted to appoint a king.

Don't believe all the myths. Discover for yourselves. It's much more fun.

For me the United States of America means freedom for people of all races, religion, sex and creed. Without America people would be suffering in proverty. People wouldn't have the best jobs to support their families. For me without America I wouldn't be alive today. Knowing in my country we didn't have the right medical supplies to keep premature babies alive. I should know I was one of the babies who was about to be thrown in the trash left for dead if it wasn't for my adopted american dad who brought me to America to have a chance to live.

It's the best country in the world. Unfortunately, the media would have us believe otherwise. Open your eyes, people and be thankful for what you've got.
