I have a business website getting set up, and I will be using random pictures as use of icons.

If I find it on google image, can I just take the photo, post it on my website as an icon link, without saying any source or whom I got "stole" the picture from?

If the image is copywritten, you cannot use it unless you have the author's permission. It's actually illegal and it could cause your website to be shut down if you're caught. It's hard to find out many times if an image is copywritten and most times it's stated in the picture encoding. But as a general rule of thumb, if you didn't get from a website that offers free website images, then it's most likely copywritten material.

Well first of all, any information, pictures, video, ect. is legally copyrighted to the individual or company that owns the website when published to the internet.

If you wish to use something you should always credit the person or company that created the imformation you wish to use.

Also asking the responsible parties for permission to use their "projects" can also avoid any possible legal action.

In general, no, it's no okay. The image is copyrighted by someone, and you can be liable for using it on your site.

There are CDs/DVDs/etc. of royalty-free images that you can license for a use such as yours. That would be the way to go without possibly incuring liability.

You could be sued. You must ask for permission to re-publish the picture before doing so in order to completely avoid prosecution. The permission must be in writing, e-mail is not considered legal documentation.

Legally anything in the "public domain" can be used as long as it is not for commercial purposes. Anything else is copyright infringement.

except you heavily regulate the image (so it is your individual artwork), you could no longer except it specifically says which you will. even nonetheless, many photos could be used in case you supply a source.
