Can anyone tell me if actually they are legal or not legal. Would be interested if cops or ex-cops could answer.
A friend of mine says cops do not have quotas and i say that they do.

unofficially they do. They can never admit this.

I know cops whose sargents say to them "Use that ticket book today" and other phrases signalling the need for the cops to do something that day.
Sure, they could bring in crooks and stuff, but they'd rather write parking tickets and easy squeezy speedy tickets.
And if they have a hot hair, you'll get the seatbelt citation.

It's like when you leave work early on a friday in the summer.
you'll never admit to it, but you do it.

quotas are a myth and yes they have to do traffic stops to insure public safety and sometimes they concentrate on just seat belt tickets, it is one of the laws that the driver awareness program enforces 100%. people complain all the time about speed traps, ticket quotas, seat belt enforcement, defective equipment tickets, and fog light tickets, these are all perfectly good reasons to pull somebody over, even the tag light tickets. come on people think about it and use some common sense, stop blaming the other person. how many times have you drove down a dark highway or street only to meet up with another car or truck and they have 1 headlight shining in your eyes or had there fog lights on and you find your self totally blind for a second or two, how many have followed a car or truck that didn't have brake lights or do not use turn signals, how many complain about cars weaving in and out of traffic, how would you like to be assaulted after dark and the only description the car was it was dark in color, because you could not read the tag number,no tag lights.it's done to save a life which may be yours. the public complains that we do not do our job and we sit around drinking coffee and eating donuts, in all reality, it has to start with the public. think about it we do our job do you

In Kentucky - on the top of each and each month the cop's around right here consistently pull over people who they think of is suspicious habit to fulfill their "value tag Quota". I propose heavily i grow to be pulled over one night purely for turning off my headlights in front of my buddies residing house at 2:00am...i did no longer get a value tag yet i'm able to tell he fairly had to grant me one b/c he grow to be being fairly impolite, and a jerk.

They might not actually have quotas, but you have to wonder sometimes... especially when it is getting close to time for the department Holiday party... all that booze takes $ to purchase.
