character trait. someone could look like an evil biker dude with thousands of tatoos but he could be as sweet as a kitten on the inside! But then take all those catholic priests a while ago. Get the picture?

NOT EYE ALWAYS CONTACT !!! This is a theory that can damage the reputation of many people who are simply shy, or intimidated, so while it may have some truth it can also be misleading and discriminatory.
If the person speaks badly about his friends to make himself a appear to be a victim this is a warning sign that he/she will treat you in a similar way some day. If people seem to do things that bother him, but he doesn’t have the courage to speak up – then this is somebody who may be two-faced, or at the very least be lacking the self-esteem to be true to himself and to others.
Maturity usually means that confrontation is a part of life, without being a savage and a fighter. If he is balanced he will have the strength of character to stand up for his beliefs in front of anyone. He/She will be someone who is protective/loyal (when necessary) and caring toward those h/she knows. HOW DOES HE TALK ABOUT OTHERS?

I just wanted to point out that social awkwardness or anxiety should not be confused with the traits of one who should not be trusted.
I generally don't trust people who, after they speak, appear shallow, mean, yell, and show pride in such behavior.

For me, it would have to be the eyes. If a person can't look me in the eye when they are talking to me about something, then I most likely will have a difficult time trusting them.

Not having eye contact, that to me is a sign of not trusting someone.

People that talk too much are usually overcompensating or hiding something. Also look to see if they fidget, look behind themselves a lot, or have eyes that won't focus on one thing for any length of time

Hi Kimberly ;)
A red flag went up for me at an interview last year when the man hiring me (the company owner) told me about how "concerned" he was about business ethics. He was very defensive about it. I mentioned to my wife that it was suspicious. Turned out he didn't have any ethics. I should have known! Anyhow, I don't work for that jerk any more. What a relief :)

Inconsistency. Inconsistency with their stories, things, people reactions whatever in their stories, seem to always change, and then when called on it, they seem to some how come up with some outta whack reason to explain. But inconsistency is a key. Stories, don't always change so much.

Look for the fake or forced smile. If someone feels the need to convince you they are happy when they are not then you can't trust them about anything.

"Ha! Good one Kimberly.
Since it takes so long to validate trust in normal people I'll give you an immediate answer "off the top of my head."
I refuse to trust anyone in a prison uniform!"
