depends on the woman. different woman do better on different pills/birth control. as for me, i had to try about 6 different pills before i found one that gave me the least side effects. i would try some low dose pills first, such as alesse or mircette. these are considered 'ultra' low dose pills. then there are low dose pills which contain a bit more than the ultra low dose pills but still a rather low dose. examples of these are LoOvral, nordette, ortho-cept, yasmin, and cyclessa (which is a newer one). some women do very well wit the ultra low dose pills, and some dont. some actually do better with the low dose pills that have a bit more hormone in them. so i would go talk to your doctor and talk really frankly about your options and what is best for you with your current symptoms. if youre nervous about being on hormones and youre nervous about having negative side effects, go with one of the ultra low dose pills such as alesse or mircette first and then go from there if youre finding you are having side effects you dont like. doctors are usually pretty good about changing up birth control pills for you because they understand that each woman reacts differently to each pill. good luck!
PS - in regards to depr-provera above (the shot that works for 3 months), you will have a major side effect from that - weight gain. many women on depo gain weight, sometimes 10-15 pounds. this is because youre getting a shot that is 3 months worth of birth control all at once - it tends to make your body go a little crazy. where you dont want any bad side effects, you may want to stick with an oral pill rather than the shot.

The very little experience I have in this area (I'm a guy) would say Yasmin or Yaz (basically same thing, slightly different timing). It has a built in water pill that helps prevent the typical weight gain.
Seasonal is a pill that you can take for 3 months straight that you only get 4 periods a year.
Of course, for pregnancy prevention, abstinence is 100%

If your primary complaint is heavy periods, try the Depo-Provera shot. You will spot for about three months, but most of the time after that you will no longer have a period. If you need your periods regulated, a low dose birth control pill will work well, maybe Ortho Tri-Cyclen--it also helps clear up acne.

The number one and best type of Birth Control and it comes with a 100% money back guarantee, is NOT have sex at all.
From there on it is less than 100% effective. The Pill or patch.

It depends...every woman is different. For me, Depo-Provera worked well. I didn't gain weight, and I have little or no periods at all. The nice thing is, you don't have to remember to take a pill every day, just a shot every three months. Planned Parenthood will do this for free. Check with your health department. Good luck.

depo shot!!! No periods, and I believe it is the most effective birth control there is (next to not having sex) :-) That's what I do. I get that shot once every three months, and I don't have to worry about getting pregnant, OR having my period:-D

Next to abstinence, an Aspirin works best.
(take the Aspirin and place it between your knees and hold it tightly)
