Since Tupac has been gone longer than 5 years, I would have to say that as far as widely accepted and successful, I would have to say Jay -Z. But if I were to step out the box, and say **** all them haters, I would have to say 50 Cent. Hate it or love it, he has sold more than anyone else and counting! And it is ignorant peoples wide spread hatred that is making him sell even more. Let's face it with that body and work ethic, teamed with I don't give a **** lyrics and a Dr. Dre beat, he is unstoppable!
P.S. to the idiot that was hating on Jay -Z, you are exactly who he was talking about when he said that he had to dumb down for his audience, he has a lot of lyrical talent that goes almost unmatched, but it is sometimes lost upon those of little intelligence, that are unable to keep up and understand. And by the way Beyonce is like 24 or 25, and Jay is in his 30's, I can see why she is attracted to him, like one of his songs said, Money, Power, and Respect. Something that I am sure you will never have I assume from the wishful thinking of your user name!

Well the best Rapper/Lyricist of our time is definetely Eminem. The best entertainer is Jay-Z and the best hip hop artist who has the best personality/character is Tupac. That is my take, lyrically no one beats eminem, especialy his earlier work. To answer your question though, the best rapper in the past 5 years is Nas.

well even though hes not your typical rapper(black,rapping bout women,and drugs) i think eminem is such a good rapper. even though i hate that music ,but loose yourself is one of his best songs. oh ya and kanye west is pretty good.
