Basicly, Social Contract is opposed to the notion of 'King is King by the will of God' in that no King can be king without subjects to be government. Consequently, enlighteds stated that they shouldn't have a king if they didn't want them, because after all, the King is only there because the people let him or her be there. Quite a revolutionary statement. As well, writers and thinkers of the Enlightment spread knowledge throughout working classes, which were traditionally put aside of education; according to them, knowledge makes a man free, free to think by himself, and thus free at 100%.
