You can't wash wool rugs in the machine.You can get a rug cleaner at any store that sells cleaning supplies or where they rent rug cleaning machines.Depending where you live,some towns you can get it at a supermarket .

I too would take it to the cleaners. Once I had a wedding gift of a beautiful hand made rug and I washed it in cold water even and it shrunk up and was a real mess.

Only if you want a tiny, white shag rug.
It will shrink up to a very small size.

That's one for the dry cleaners or a professional rug/carpet cleaner. The dry cleaners would be less expensive and less likely to ruin it.

i dont think thats a good idea coz it will 'hurt' the washing machine and ur rug too. better go and give ur dry cleaner a visit!

I'd take a chance if it were me. Use cold water, or lukewarm, and lay flat to dry. Then when it's dry, you could put it in the dryer on fluff to make it softer.
