Just got a Dell M992 crt monitor supposed to be 19" diagonally but it's only slightly bigger than 17" diagonally. Anybody else got ripped of?

Size of the CRT is measured not for the part that is exposed, but the entire size of the CRT tube diagonally.

The visual size is always little more than 1" smaller than advertised size (which is the entire size of the tube)

There was a class action lawsuit about this 10 years or so ago. That's why they advertise both ways these days.

You have to understand that on a crt style monitor it may say 19", but viewable size may vary according to each monitors manufacturer.
