As far as I understand, the offence of assault is only made out if the victim is a natural person. However, peanuts that are SALTED are likely to be arrested themselves on the charge of being delicious in a public place. The arresting officer or citizen in this case may often be justified in law to eat the offending legumes to prevent further breaches of said law.
