Check out this website. There are lots of cute edible crafts that are perfect for first graders. I just started my 33rd year as a first grade teacher. Have fun!

I am a high school special education teacher and teach functional living skills. When we study different countries, we make simple foods from those countries ( we once fried bananas). Also, while studying the food pyramid, we discovered that there were many fruits many of the students had never heard of. We are going to buy fruits not usually consumed by your typical Mississippian (kiwi, starfruit, pomegrante, etc) and ave taste tests. Going to do the same with unusual vegetables. Those are "cutesy" ideas like the flower pot cupcakes, but it is goint to be fun for us.

why don't you give each kid a small jello mold, a plastic knife, some candy, spray can whipped cream, and some fruit slices. then tell them that you are going to have a jello mold decorating contest! take pictures of all the finished jello mold creations and post them on your bulletin board. it'll be fun, yummy, and the parents will think it's cute!
