I read this many years ago in a collection of sci-fi short stories

IIRC, that's a story by Ray Bradbury. The visitor from the future was a bumbling-assistant type, and the story ended with. . . never mind.

lady a million: Allison Jade Schubert lady 2: Cassidy (Cassie or Cass) Elaine Howe Boy: Aldan James Channer (Aldan and Channer mean 'sensible', and that i merely enjoyed James) i think of that the boy could desire to commence with lady 2, and finally end up with lady a million.

Yup, my vote is for Ray Bradbury. Read it about (egads, counting on fingers, toes, dog's toes...) nearly forty years ago. No way can I remember the title, though, sorry.
