it says SHORT http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=blanket&x=12&y=13 Curve over the top of the 'a' , but it is pronounced BLANGKIT long 'a' sound - Good Observation!

Books do have typos sometimes... maybe that's all that's going on because blanket does have a "long a" sound.
