When I'm playing an audio file here in the pc in my office, the Real Player automatically is the one activated. But I prefer to use Windows Media, so how do I set it as default?

Open up Windows Explorer, choose Tools - Folder Options - File Types. Pick your file type from the list (i,e, MP3) and change the 'Opens With' to point to Media Player

Go to the Control Panel, and double click the Add/Remove Programs icon.

On the left hand side, you'll see an icon for "Set Program Access and Defaults". Click the radio button for "Custom", and under the "Choose a default media player" heading, select "Windows Media Player".

Make sure the adjacent check box called "Enable Access to this program" is checked.
Hit "OK", and that should do it.

Open up the control panel. Open Add or Remove Programs.
Click Set Program Access and Defaults and click Custom. There you can set the default Media Program, among other things. Hope this was a little more direct in answering your question than some of the other answers.

Or right-click on the media file itself, and select properties. Then pick Windows media player from the list.
