Skill wise it's Olajuwon all the way, no doubt about it. He could do it all well for a big guy and could hold his own against bigger guys (he wasn't that big for a center). Shaq is just huge, how can you outrebound someone that knocks you out the way? How can you block someone who again pushes you outta the way? It has been done but it's not an everyday, every shot occurance. Olajuwon had some amazing footwork, and Shaq is lucky to be standing.

One on one, I think I'd have to give it to Olajuwon. He just has too much skill to be ignored, and he has held his own against heavier and bigger guys.

Olajuwon.
Career per game stats, O'Neal might have the benefit, because there's no dominant true center that can rival him during his peak. Olajuwon had to compete with some of the best, David Robinson, Shaq in his youth years. And Hakeem came out on tops, winning the double in the year that Jordan plays baseball.

Their playoff average is nearly identical, but i give it to hakeem, because his Rockets swept O'neal's Magic, 4-0.

Both are very skilled players Olajuwon was like a power forward playing center. In the paint he could get his shot off no matter who guarded him. O'Neal is the more traditional center probably the most dominate player in the paint since Wilt Chamberlin. That said Hakeem was the better skill player. Check Olajuwon's records!

Olajuwon by far. Remember Olajuwon beat Shaq in the finals when shaq was a rookie. Olaluwon could tkae you off the dribble, he had a 15 foot jump shot, and he had moves like M.J. in the post.

Hakeem was much better from the free-throw line and he could hit a lateral motion mid-range shot that made him seem more like a small forward. He had excellent footwork under the basket.

Shaq, in his prime had good footwork but foot problems have dogged him since before leaving the Lakers. His size and good skills make him a power under the basket. Everyone said Kobe wouldn't be the player he was without Shaq and to a point they were right, but Kobe has shown he wasn't resting that heavily on Shaq's considerable shoulders.

If I had to pick one for a team, in their prime, I would have to go with Hakeem.

I will take Olajwon. My point of reference is the 1995 Finals where the Rockets swept the Magic, 4-0, and Olajuwon was named Finals MVP by a unanimous vote.

I think Olajuwon was a better "skill" player. But I still have to go with Shaq, his overall size and dominance puts him on top.

Looks like so far the Olajuwon group is ahead, I have to agree with them. I am not putting Shaq down, for he has got my attention more than once, with a move or dunk.

olajuwon is better all the way , he could beat the shack with his shots and defending olajuwon was better , get ready for a lot of blocked shots made by olajuwon in this match face to face , shack is stronger , but that doesn't make him better , the important is the fundament , olajuwon was fastest than shack is , so that's his adventage .

Power Rating = pr = points + rebounds + assists = p + r + a
I developed this system to settle arguments. It is fool proof and simple.

Career
Shaq - 26.3 + 11.8 + 2.8 = 40.9
Olajuwon - 21.8 + 11.1 + 2.5 = 35.5
That should answer your question. Shaq gets the nod.
