Unfortunately yes...

Michelle Pfeiffer
Robert Redford
Clint Eastwood
Harrison Ford

...to name but a few.

Thats the pull of the "Hollywood Machine" though isn't it? Actors are built up and up until they become huge self-promotional self-marketing corporations. It gets to the point that the actor's name becomes bigger and more impressive than the actor's talent (Tom Cruise being the one that springs to mind first).

A name alone can sell a film - you only have to look at the promotion for "Snakes on a Plane", the recent Samuel L Jackson movie, to see that the film's quality no longer matters when you have such a charismatic actor promoting it.

Unfortunately though, there are certain actors (all of the above and more) that will always have the charisma to reel me into the cinema seat...I'm the first to admit that I'm a total sucker for it.

Yes. Usually find any thing with Morgan Freeman, Tom Hanks, Johnny Depp,
Tim Robbins and Samuel Jackson are usually really good. Saying that I haven't seen Snakes on a Plane yet. I was also disappointed with Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

sometimes, but i will not go to a movie with actor/actress that i dont like even if the movie is a good one. i dont want to give them the false hope that he/she is a good actor. many time, they get the false signal that the actor/actress is good as the move makes big bucks. but in actual fact, its the movie script that is good not the leading actor/actress. but somehow, they get to be famous for the wrong reason.

yes i have seen a list of actors in a movie and had no interest at all then i will see one name or see the actor in in the trailer and I'm hooked, one that comes to mind is Christoper Walkin, i love him no matter what the movie is, In fact i was thinking about seeing the Rundown even though i don't think The Rock is much of a actor.

I've done that with a few movies. I bought G.W. Pabst's "Diary of a Lost Girl" (1929) on DVD because Fritz Rasp, who played the Thin Man in F.W. Murnau's classic "Metropolis" (1927), was in it, and as a result I "fell in love" with Louise Brooks. And after being enchanted with "Run Lola Run", I bought "The Princess and the Warrior", "Anatomy" and "The Bourne Identity" because of Franka Potente.

I understand Brigitte Helm from "Metropolis" did a few talkies before she retired from films in the '30s, and I'd love to try to find one of those.
