They live in a stall normally within a stable. People normally consider a barn a stable. The stall is the individual area. Some even call them a pen.

A stable has stalls consist of different sizes from 12 X 12 feet to 30 X 30 feet in length/width. Even less and even more. Some stalls have cover, some don't. Some have box stalls (where the horse is inside and can go out an enterance to go outside to the back of their stall. Some have grass, some have shavings and some have sand.

Stalls are also called "pens" too. Think of it this way, the barn/stable is the horse's "home" as it's pen/stall is the horse's "bedroom". lol.

A stall has to be big enough if 2 or more horses will be present in that space. I think it is 1 acre for 2 horses around here. Unless mare foaled, then the foal will be able to by pass the animal regulation until the foal is weaned upon 4-7 months of age.

A stable can consist of pasture boarding too. Some people don't want their horse in a stall they consider "small" and "unspacious" to the horse. Therefore, they rent a pasture on the stable grounds if it is permitted.

Now, not sure if you were meaning "stall" than "stale". Help clear that up for us just incase we missing something.

A barn can be privatly owned or it can be publicly used.

I think the difference between the usage of "barn" v.s "stable" is Barn can be catagorized as individual/private owned on property (like on a ranch) while a "stable" is more catagorized as a boarding place for the public to board their horses on. Even a stable consist of lessons and training.

However, a barn (which consist of stalls in a designed building connected to one another. also use of keeping tack, hay and other animals like pigs and cows in) can be at a stable. It is used which ever way. It depends on your location and how people use the terms. Around here, it is a stable is boarding while barn is used for private owned. But, it is common for a person to say "I am renting a stall at a barn"

Pretty much that means that their horse is on someone else's property and paying them money (a fee) to keep their horse there. (plus extra needs like feeding, cleaning, training).

Do you maybe mean a STALL and a stable? You're both right! Although a stall is only a make shift stable,as they arent big enough for a horse to move around in or lie down n stuff. Alternatively some horses live in a field all year round

It really depends on the owner. They can stay in a pasture, a really big pen, most of the time a few acres.

Or in a barn in a stall then they get worked everyday. I am assuming you meant 'stall'. So yeah it can be a stable as well, but a stall is more specific.

They also live out in the wild in certain areas. Huge terrain. Lots of land.

Did that solve it?

Horses stay in barns, in big fields. They need lots of room to move around.
they also eat a lot of hay and grass. The horses can live in a stable which each horse will need its own stall. (not stale)

stable....stall, same thing. The horse's stable is usually many stalls combined. That's all that means. If you say barn, a horse can have a stall in a barn, if you say stable certainly that means there are many stalls for horses in there! So, good luck and Take Care.
