If you are not friends with your significant other you sure dont have a lot to fall back on when the times get tough, and those times get tough for everyone. That old saying, friends make the best lovers is soooooo true. So go out with a friend? If it is a true friendship, it will be okay.

if going out with an 'opposite sex' friend ruin your relationship, you're in a relationship with someone who has self-esteem problems.

Only you know what level you both are on....This question is kinda wide open.
I do know that to have a great marriage, you gotta have a great friend, lover, etc... So what plateau are you on? If the correct one...Take the leap of faith and love every minute of it...Only you know.

It will take the relationship to another level and if it doesn't work out, then that will probably be the end of it.

No risk, no reward I say.

possibly. it depends on how mature you both are, and how well rooted your friendship was before.....

im going out with my best friend, and so far so good.

it can even be a positive thing, since you already know so much about each other, and you trust each other.
