That would depend on if you want to be a paid firefighter or volunteer. If you are wanting to volunteer then all you need is the will and the drive to help others. Your fire chief will put you through the rest of the training that you need at the expense of the department. (CPR, First Responder, FF I and II, EMT, Extrication, etc..) I do believe that if you are applying for a paid position, the company will do the same as it is required by paid firefighters to have all the credentials. No matter which field you choose, (paid or volunteer) I admire you for your ambition and your compassion. I am a volunteer FF in my small community where everyone knows everyone. If you can constantly run calls to pick up the bodies of the ones you love, and look into the eyes of the family members of the ones you couldn't save, and still get up at 3 in the morning for another call..........I APPLAUD YOU, I WISH YOU THE BEST, AND GOD BE WITH YOU.
