I just saw a National Geograpic special two nights ago on this, and the number was over 2980, nearly 3,000. That included all the passengers on all the flights that went down, including flight 93 that didn't hit anything but a field, all the people on the ground, all the rescue workers, everybody at the Pentagon - everyone who died from terrorism that occurred that day.
