My baby is three months old, and I know pretty soon he's going to start crawling. We're also going to Mexico for Christmas, and staying in a beach house with extended family, and they recommend bringing his play-pen.
Also, does anyone know how you would go about transporting it via the airline? Would I check it as-is, or pack it something and check it?

Thanks for your help!!

We're staying in a beach house, and yes there is a crib available, but I don't want to have to set him in his crib if he's not sleeping. Especially if I just need to set him down for a few minutes to do something like go to the bathroom, lol.

believe it or not i just traveled yesterday home from my 2 weeks w/ my family. I brought a pack and play for my baby to sleep in but you could use it as a play yard in your case. Walmart has a inexpensive version for around 25 dollars, my mom bought this as a back up at her house (great quality for the money, worked perfectly). Target has a version Costo brand i think for 39.99. Also looked fine for your use.

You could also try somehting that looks like a white fencing. its interconnected and makes a ring on the floor for baby to stay in (don't know the brand name)(might be cheap to ship there)

I flew airtran and they did count my pack and play as one of my 2 alloted checked pieces, so be careful other wise you may get charged a extra baggage fee. (which is around 65 dollars). I would call your airline to find out before heading to the airport!

the Graco Pack n' Play is a great one for infants. You could buy it a target, walmart, baby's 'r us, etc. for less than $100. I think the cheapest one I found was $70. The nice thing is that it acts as a playpen and changing table. It is designed to be toted around. I am not sure if you son will be too big for it in December...

I believe you could gate check the play pen, but I could be wrong.

I have the fisher price ocean wonders one. It was one of the more inexpensive ones (Walmart) and it comes with a carrying case, so you could check it as luggage I wouls imagine. It also has a full size bassinet you can use for napping/sleeping or as a play pen, very easy to convert to either.

you can find graco playpen at walmart or target that are realatily inexpensive. as far as transporting them i would check it as is they usually will not count baby items such as strollers car seats and cribs as part of your allowed lugage but call the air port ahead because if you are bringing all of these things they could charge up to 80 each way to transport it depending on your airline. does your hottel not provide cribs? most hottels do.

The graco pack and play's are great they fold up into a bag like a duffel bag and you can check it in as regular luggage as is at the airport. Good Luck

Graco pack n play! (walmart)

Perhaps see if the extended family can have one there already for you to avoid having to travel with one since they recommend one, or at least travel one way with one? Purchse one in Mexico? Or some places even have them to rent--

It would be one to check in as luggage for sure. :)
Good Luck and happy vacation!

U should check a few stores to see what they have. Look at some in the price range that u want to spend. Call the airlines and ask them about that. I know that there is a specific weight that they won't allow u to check it in

Pack-n-Play's are great. They come with a bag for them and everything. I wouldn't get the one with the bassinet unless you really need it because they are alot bigger and harder to carry around.
