I can't help you directly however, I do know several department heads at "the perkins school for the blind". If you look it up on the web it will confirm the following two statements.
One- It is the founding and most famous school for blind/visually impared/ deaf children
two- Yes, it is the school where "Helen Keller" learned her abc's

Your friend could so anything she wanted to except maybe be a bus driver or an sniper. My best friend was legally blind and only could see barely. In school, they made her extra large print items, she learned Braille and went on to law school. Now she is a successful lawyer. I think you friend needs to explore what she is interested in and go to school. many schools accommodate those with difficulties. Then get a job in that field. It is amazing what someone with an impairment can do if they put their mind to it. some ideas: marketing, public relations, teacher, working with others with handicaps, or counselor.
