glennbarrington made a very good point, one all riders can use.

Sorry I can't give you an accurate estimate but I feel you will use that information as propaganda for helmet laws or keeping a family member from the joy of riding.

Good luck with that!

That's because motorcycle fatalities are not the massive scourge the safety Nazis would have you believe. Bike accidents are less than 1% of all motor vehicle accidents. Your chances of suffering a fatal head trauma in a car are roughly20X greater, do you suggest we make cars safer? Remember Dale Earnhardt was wearing a helmet. a six point safety harness, driving a car that was roughly 90% safer than anything currently available to the public & still ended up a fatality.

The lucky ones die from head trauma. It's the ones who survive you got to feel sorry for.

bluffmike makes a good point. More people die in cars from head trauma, and they don't wear helmets.

We should pass a law for car drivers and all passengers (including infants and pets) to wear helmets.

In 2005, 4,553 motorcyclists died in the U.S., or about one every two hours, but I don't have information on the percentage of those who died from head trauma.

Math:
4,553 divided by 365 days = 12.47/day
approx. 1 every two hours

More die of trauma to the body than to their heads.
We don't need any helmet laws.

In my opinion it really depends on what type of helmet is worn. If its not DOT and SNELL approved there is more of a risk. Full face is the way to go regardless. The people you see wearing the poser skull caps are taking a big risk of some pretty bad injuries.

Helmets markedly reduce the chance of head injury but the added weight on your head increases the chance of cervical spine injury. Would you rather be paralyzed or be a vegetable???

Not enough to be rated per hour.

I guess no one died during the hour you were looking, huh?
