Been a big fan of them for years due to their flamboyance and skill they entertained us with during the late eighties/early nineties :)
PS I'm not old enough to remember earlier than that.

Australia are the only team who seem to be perennial dominant in the modern era. the other teams seem to operate in a swings-and -roundabout strength to weakness basis. But for years the Windies were the most dominant team. Perhaps the argument tha there needs to be an overhaul in termas of infrastructure in Carribean cricket holds sway.... :-/

Lara retiring may be a good thing for them. They rely on him too much. Someone has to take the responsibility. Perhaps it will be Dwayne Bravo he seems like a very promising all-rounder.

I began my cricket watching in the early 70s, so all my early memories are of being slaughtered by the Windies, and being desperate to beat them. But now they have sunk so low, I am beginning to realise that the world of cricket needs a strong Windie side.
But I don't think they will ever dominate again. The inter-island politics seem to rear their heads far too often (don't forget that West Indies is not one nation, but a collection of countries, and that they are not as similar as we might think.) But I think their biggest problem lies in the shrinking world and the ease of global communications. The Windie youth are becoming more Americanised, and that means more basketball etc. And with the advent of satellite TV, there's a lot more football for them to get interested in.
Cricket will never bee the dominant sport in the Windies again.

the toddlers are understandably getting lured away by ability of the U. S. college scholarships, and you will't blame them for that. Barring an basic version of Alan Stanford rolling up, i won't be able to see lots interior the Islands that would stump up the money needed to preserve the skills. possibly the BBL PBL IPL etc would be a needed evil, with the money offered by ability of those competitions possibly being adequate to stem the tide. Ironic fairly that the assumption became kicked off initially interior the West Indies, and it now might come complete circle and revive the sport there from the outdoors. The exterior funds will additionally weaken the inter islands factionalism that has plagued the sport there besides.

Considering the bench strength they have at present and also
considering the talent of countries like Australia, Sri Lanka,
India, Pakistan etc., West Indies will not be able to regain the
dominant position which they had held once in World Cricket

If west indies have to come up in world cricket then they have ro take some very tough decisions, not only for the team selection burt also for the selection committee. They can definitely regain their position but it will take some night and a step by step process need to be identified. They have a big chance of proving themselves in the upcoming world cup which is to be take place in west insies itself.

I'd love to say "No; England are currently proving themselves to be dominant in the world of cricket!" but sadly I can't - so yes, the W'Indies CAN!
