I'm going to assume that you keep a paper journal (and/or a blog) of some type.....

Just write. If you have to do this to fill a page, write the same word over and over. Fill up a page with *something,* whether it's that single word or a sentence. Draw a picture. Write down the names of all the people you've known, or perhaps all your old school friends. Whatever happened to them?

The idea is to write *freely.* Any time you can write freely, it means you're unafraid of getting your ideas down. Don't concern yourself with who may end up reading it someday - it's a journal, which according to this book I have (and inspired me to start my own journal 12 years ago) is supposed to be a record of what your *mind* is doing. Whatever you get down should not always be written in perfect grammar, spelling, and structure - sometimes, I think we would-be writers try too hard to get down meaningful entries that we create our own issues with it.

That's the issue I have with my own paper journal - I worry too much about writing "enough" that I end up with crap or stare at the blank page. Now, I'd be happier with crap if there was more of it per day (not to say I haven't written a ton of crap in 12 years.....), but I often find myself babbling more about what I *did* that day than what I was thinking. My journal thus sometimes feels more like a diary and an obligation than the fulfilling exercise I wanted it to become when I began. But you know what? I keep at it. Every day, without fail. Eventually, I'm going to write *something* that kicks my butt.

So will you. Stick to it.

Four "D's" to remember:

Determination - you will do it.
Discipline - you will make time for it every day.
Dedication - you will not say "I won't be hurt by skipping it."
Direction - you will remember where you want to go.

==============================================
Now, was I answering you or myself? There's a journal topic for ya - get busy. ; )

The best way I have found to get rid of writer's block is to write. Even though I know what I am writing is crap, or off the mark. or not my best, or not imaginative enough, if I just keep producing, like a little trickle of water eventually the trickle becomes a stream, the stream becomes a rush and the rush becomes a torrent.

The other thing I find helps is to try looking at the problem a different way. If you're writing about a princess who has to kiss a toad, try looking at it from the toad's perspective when this obsessed woman keeps trying to kiss him. Doing something that forces me to have a new experience, to look at something from another direction. Even if that experience has nothing to do with what I'm writing about, it can help. Thinking creatively spurs more creativity.

What I do to get rid of writers block is: I listen to the music that inspires me the most, talk to my crazy friends (always good for inspiration LOL), and I don't force it, you'll over come it eventually. Probably the best thing you can do is take a break from writing all together, at least until you can clear up your block.

You have to change your routine (obviously). Do something radically different, or WRITE something radically different. Perhaps you'll get off on a tangent. It's really all about giving inspiration opportunities to strike. Sometimes the brain just needs a detour.

go do something you have aways liked doing, or maybe try something new for new inspiration. Maybe stop thinking about it so much and then it'll come, like you know when u have to tell someone something and then totally forget and you try and try but u cant rememebr then 5 hours later its there, or maybe ask for some new ideas from people you dont normally associate with

It's not the same for everyone, but what I do is watch a movie or read a book that deals with the subject I'm writing about.

I agree with Emma. Write something, anything, completely different from the thing that has you stuck. Way to go, Emma! Emma for President!
