Hmm. I started riding 25 years ago. Taught myself from reading magazines. Got in one accident with a Van, that didn't involve contact, drove the bike in a ditch once, and passed out from heat exhaustion at an intersection in Slidell LA after a hard days work in the sun. Got smart, or tired of falling down and messing up my bike, and took a motorcycle safety course. 24 years, nearly a half million miles, about a dozen different bikes, and 7 more safety courses I'm still learning and haven't fallen down again. I'm a carefully "aggressive" rider on a Sport Touring motorcycle, I like sticking to the back roads for the turns and lack of traffic, and I wear high quality protection on the off chance I get unlucky. There's not a week that goes by that some bonehead in a car doesn't tick me off, but they do that in my car or SUV too. On the bike I shake it off and keep enjoying the ride. About 30 miles either way to work and it really clears out the cobwebs. I want to keep coming home safe and sound to my beautiful wife, but she knows I'll be a motorcyclist till the day I die. Best of luck in your decision, keep it rubber side down and between the ditches. Ride safe.

Yes I have not had a accident in at least 19 years ever since I stopped riding dirt bikes and ride only street bikes now. but I am also a truck driver and I believe that makes me a safer driver and can read traffic a little better and I am also a member of A.M.A and read allot about safety in there. Try a safety course and learn how to see your way out of a problem before it starts and it my help you! I ride a Gold wing all over the country today so I get the miles.

Yup. My Dad has never had one and he's been riding since the 1950's. And I've only had one since 1979, which wasn't really an accident - another rider crashed in front of me, I did some off-roading into the bushes to avoid hitting him. Neither my bike nor I had more than a scratch. Some years I put as many as 15,000 miles on riding every day, all year long; other years less.
If you pretend you're invisible to everyone else on the road and NEVER ride when you've had even one drink, you can live and ride for a long time!

No, not really. All my friends ride bikes, and they've ALL had accidents!
If you ride bikes, falling of is not a question of 'if' but 'when'. If you're extremely careful, the chances of you coming off your bike are reduced, but motorcycling is still an inherently dangerous activity. I should know - I've been riding for the last 25 years, and have had more crashes than I care to remember. But of course, I still ride bikes every single day. Love motorcycles too much to stay away from them! :-)
Ride with care!

I've been riding for 15 years. I taught myself how to ride my first bike by going around the block about 50 times, and I've never had an accident, or even laid the bike down. Riding is fun, but it is damn serious business when you're out there. Most accidents are avoidable, and defensive driving is critical to being able to 'see' accidents before they have a chance to happen. That means when you see women on cell phones, stay the hell away.

I ride 20K a year and have three major accidents after thirty plus years of riding. My brother has been riding about 15 years and has had two major accidents (the last of which was lots of hospital time). My sister has been riding two years and has never had one, But to truly answer your question my brother in-law has logged about 15K a year for the last 11 years with only one accident and that was with a deer. So nope I don't know anyone.

The ones that ride a lot (10,000+ miles/yr) are the ones that do not crash because riding makes you better and more able to avoid mindless car drivers.
Ask your question to those who ride less than 1000 miles a year and you will get different answers.

2 accidents in the street. Both were in the middle of the winter. Slid on some ice and snow covered roads both times. Me and my bike looked like we were playing baseball, sliding down the road heading for home. Had on so much winter clothes, didn't feel a thing and my bike didn't get a scratch.
Never had a collision with anything while riding in the street. Defensive riding.
