I went to my dr this past Mon and am scheduled for a c-section next Friday. Recently my legs have been swelling up to 3 times their size. My blood pressure is higher than normal for me but my dr said it's fine. My doctor says this is normal and I will have the swelling until I deliver, also to lay on my left side. When I lay on my side it takes 4-5 hrs for the swelling to go down and if I'm up for 15 min or more it comes back. My feet and legs hurt so bad it is hard to walk. Any suggestions?

I have talked to my dr several times and he says it's not preeclampsia(even though he hasn't done any blood tests) I also have gestational diabetes and am insulin dependent.

this sounds like toxemia, which i had, terribly - thank goodness you are as far along as you are (i delivered my baby 9 weeks early and he only weighed 2 1/2 lbs!) - but this is still very dangerous. if your BP gets high enough you can actually have a stroke. your life is as important as your baby's and i encourage you to not think this is "normal" - look up toxemia online, you'll see that the symptoms are the same as yours. God Bless and take care...

I went through that too, also had a c section as well and had to lay on my side in the Dr office a few times during office visits as my blood pressure was really high. My legs swelled right before I had my son and it took a many days after to go down as well. It is very very important to keep your Dr office informed everyday if you have to if it is hard to walk or painful. Hang in there, it will all go away after baby is born and you will be so full of love and joy being with your baby, you will not think of all this you are going through--- hang in there! But keep your Dr. informed of what you are feeling and going through! :) Also, dont take medical advice on here, best to contact your DR as far as what measures to take. Dont elevate your legs unless the DR says too, dont drink juices etc... unless the Dr. says to. I have read many things others have posted here and, Just follow what your Dr says. All the best to you! :)

I would take it as easy as possible for the next week or so, until the c-section. I can't believe your doctor is so ho-hum about it all. I, by all means, am not saying you are in big trouble, but when I had my second baby, I started to swell up a bit and that was it. The doctor said no more working, and that I should be laying down to rest. Three days after he said that I had the baby, 2 weeks before he was due.

Don't walk so much, cut down on your sodium intake, drink a whole lot of water.
Sit,strech out your legs and muscles,
Your Dr. told you that your fine,so take his advice.
It is also good to get a 2nd medical opion,if for any reason your not comfortable with his answer.

I also had severe swelling about 13 years ago with my son.
One thing that helped was,
a warm bubble bath but please be careful getting in and
out of the tub.
I drank lots of lemonade, pinapple juice and of course water was my best friend.
That did the trick for me,the pain was mild compared to what it was before.
But the swelling of legs didnt pass until well after having my child.
Best of Luck and Congradulations!

It sounds like what you may have is toxemia, also known as preeclampsia. "Seven out of every one hundred pregnant women will develope Toxemia. This can be a deadly disease for mother and child" Google on it & get educated - don't get freaked, but ask your doctor - right away, not your next checkup - why he isn't ordering you on bedrest & feet up. Do your research, or have your partner do it for you while you put your feet up. Good luck!

I'm assuming that your doctor has ruled out preeclampsia.. if not, please check out the link below.. it can be very dangerous, even life-threatening.
Some swelling is normal, but 3 times their size seems like something that your doctor should be more concerned about.

Call your doctor- and KEEP calling your doctor until your doctor stops giving you the runaround. It sounds like edema to me.Eliminate ALL salt from your diet. Are you overweight? Do you have diabetes? If so, go to the ER NOW.
