"SHOW" means you are ovulating.
Cervix is -
soft
high
open
wet

This means the cervix will feel soft, more like your cheek. (When not fertile it feels more like your nose.) High means it is farther up/back and harder to reach if you've been checking it regularly so you can compare. Open means that you can feel a hole of the opening, almost stick your fingertip in. (Closed feels just like a little dimple.) Wet is pretty obvious. Lots of cervical mucous. Fertile mucous is usually described as "egg white cervical mucous" as it is stretchy and the consistency of egg whites.

You CAN check your own cervix. Many women do it every day in order to determine if they are fertile or not.

And you CAN check your own cervix in pregnancy as well. Just make sure your hands are clean and your nails are well trimmed. As long as your water is not broken, it is NOT a risk of infection. If your water breaks, don't put ANYTHING in your vagina.

It's closed if you can't feel a little hole. It is open if you can feel your fingertip in it (if you are pregnant, then that means it is starting to dilate; I am not sure if that is what you mean by "open" or not). However, you shouldn't be doing your own examinations because it can introduce bacteria into the vagina and cause an infection. If you DO decide that you must, make SURE to wash your hands very thoroughly first.

You cant feel whether your cervex is open or closed. Your can feel contractions during pregnancy which indicates that the cervex is dialating. While I was pregnant with my first child, my cervex had opened to 7cm and I never felt a thing.
