Scrapy, like metal to metal grinding? If that's the case, get new brakes, fast. The pads are worn to nothing, and you are grinding away at your rotor now.

And now for the above answer. He stated when braking, not while driving. The tab will squeel WHILE DRIVING to let you know the pads are getting thin. If it is squeeling while only braking, there's dust on the pads, probably from driving on a dirt road. All you have to do is clean them with brake cleaner.

It's just your brake pads getting low. Pads have a built in tab on them that rub against the rotor when the pad surface wears away to warn you that they need changed soon. You don't need to replace immediately but get them changed within 2 weeks or so depending on how hard you are on your brakes.

Your brake pads are worn down to the metal rivets which hold the pads onto the caliper flanges, and your rotors and pad flanges are scraping..bad, bad, bad. Replace the pads ASAP and be sure to have your rotors resurfaced at the same time. Inexpensive fix, but necessary.

Brakes have a metal tab on it to signal that the pad is on it's last leg.

The sound you hear is the metal tab scraping against the rotor.

I would replace the brake pads immediately as prolonged wear will ruin your rotor.

Either the brake pad material is worn out, or a caliper is starting to sieze up. Have it checked out, and don't delay, neglecting your brakes can seriously funk up plans for the rest of your short life, 'cause you can get killed.

Sounds like you need new brake linings and maybe new pads and rotors. Don't drive like that or you will cause even more damage than has already occurred.

Get new brake pads and have your rotors machine turned. They may need to be replaced if they are too worn.

It means your brakes are going out. The sooner you take your vehicle in, the less expensive the repair will be.
