Oh, my gosh, yes. I read an article this morning about this in the paper. That stinks!
I have only gotten fired from one job. The guy fired me because I didn't come to work very regularly. I was young and had a hard time getting to work, because I didn't have a car. The lame part is, a couple of years later, I saw him out, and he asked me on a date!!!!! (I said no)

It only ever happened once.....and that was a long time ago. *Before* e-mail. (I am so very, very old.....)
I would say being fired via e-mail is about as lame as you can get.
(And a very good excuse to submit their address to a whole lot of mailing lists.)
(Now the Johnny Walkers can pay them a call at their doorstep on Saturday morning *and* send them something "enlightening" to read with their breakfast.)

I did this summer. CPS (Chicago Public Schools), sent all of the teacher assistants at the school I work at "packets" 2 weeks before summer break ended. So all summer had passed and you think you're employed, and you aren't. The principal worked round the clock to get as many reinstated as possible. 7 still ended up out of work.

i have never been laid off or fired i have always been able to put in my two weeks except for the 2 jobs i walked out on because the managers don't have any right to talk about you behind your back when you are in the same d*mn room

I can't relate to this one. But I think making a person work their 9 to 5 and then let them know at the end of the day would be wrong. This happened to a co-worker of mine.

e-mail's pretty cowardly.
although once I worked for Parks Canada and got laid off due to budget cutbacks. a couple of weeks later, I got a certificate thanking me for my contribution to the restructuring!

I never have been on the receiving end, but I swung the axe a few times. One that might qualify from the other end is: "Because you have been told repeatedly you hum too much and too loudly and everyone else is bothered by it." (That is literally almost the exact words I told him.)

What are you...psychic? ;)
Just this week...I am not kidding...I was told by my employer, that "they had no place to put me", after the doctor released me to return to work, from my Workman's Comp claim. I think this is mighty strange, and possible illegal.
